Team Future, the world’s youngest skydiving team, is based in Hollywood California. Kayla Tinucci (age 15) and Justin Tinucci (age12) practice in the wind tunnel at iFly Hollywood at Universal Citywalk in Los Angeles, California. All of Team Future’s practice and competition takes place in wind tunnels. Dropzones in the United States require jumpers to be 18 years old, so Kayla and Justin do not officially jump from airplanes yet. However, the wind tunnel does duplicate the atmosphere of a “free fall” from an airplane, thus allowing people to perfect skydiving skills without actually having to jump from an airplane.
Kayla and Justin have been skydiving in wind tunnels since since 2006. They have had many hours of “tunnel time” together and as individuals.
Kayla and Justin have been able to rapidly develop their skydiving/freefall skills since each minute of tunnel time is equivalent to approximately one jump from an airplane. They practice VRW, Freefly, and 4 way RW though they would really identify themselves as “freeflyers”. The advantage of practicing in a wind tunnel is that it is possible to master many “jumps” worth of skill in one ten to twenty minute session, without having to worry about your landing, parachute etc! Kayla and Justin both have the equivalent skill of someone who has thousands of jumps.
The kids have competed internationally, most recently winning a National Competition in Arizona. They competed against world champion, adult skydivers in the wind tunnel and took first place in the professional category.
The goal of Team Future is to help gain recognition for “indoor skydiving” and skydiving in general and they hope to encourage other young flyers and to try it out! Kayla and Justin were the first “kids” team in the world, but now other kids teams are emerging and competing too. Team Future hopes to help this sport grow and gain even more attention over the coming years. The kids hope to send the message that anything is possible if you set your mind to it. They plan to continue flying in wind tunnels and hope to try out skydiving and learn about the other aspects of flying once they turn 18.
They want to give a special thanks to their coaches, Dan Perry, Rusty Lewis, and Brad Cole, and to all of their supporters who have helped them to meet their goals and bring more recognition to the sport. Also a big thank you to Derek Percoski for doing such a fabulous job helping maintain this website!
